I have been thinking about starting the Azure certification journey for some time now and now it’s time to do that. I will share my progress through this blog, which texts I read, which videos I watch, what labs I have been doing, and so on. I will also share my personal notes for all of these to add some extra value and also to help myself remember the important stuff. The first certification I will start with will be the Azure Fundamentals exam (AZ-900). It’s not a requirement for other certifications such as Azure Administrator (AZ-104) but I want a solid base before I start that one.
John Savill has a very popular course for the AZ-900 exam that you can watch for free on YouTube which I will use. You can find the playlist for it here AZ-900.

This exam won’t cover any details about specific Azure services. The purpose of the exam is to prove you have a general understanding och the cloud and the services that exist in Azure. The exam can be taken from home or at a testing center.
Skills measured by the exam (May 2022):
- Describe cloud concepts (25–30%)
- Describe Azure architecture and services (35–40%)
- Describe Azure management and governance (30–35%)
The skills measured doesn’t match with what John shows in the video as it has been updated by Microsoft. Find the latest version at Exam AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals – Learn | Microsoft Docs. To pass the exam you need to have a minimum score of 700/1000.
